윤 흥 길 尹 興 吉 Yun Heunggil

1942년 대한민국 전라북도 정읍시에서 태어나, 1961년 전주사범학교를 졸업한 뒤 그 해 10월 공군에 입대, 제트기체 정비사로 복무하였다. 1966년 부안의 진서초등학교 석포분교 교사로 근무하며 내소사에서 습작 생활을 시작, 1968년 〈한국일보〉 신춘문예에 소설 〈회색 면류관의 계절〉이 당선되어 문단에 데뷔하였다.

1973년 원광대학교 문리대학 국문과를 졸업한 뒤 숭신여자중고등학교 교사를 거쳐 출판사 일조각 편집부에서 근무하였다. 1973년에 외할머니와 친할머니의 두 아들이 각각 국군과 빨치산에 가담해 맞서는 동족상잔의 아픔과 함께 감동적인 화해를 그린〈장마〉를 발표하며 문단의 주목을 받았다. 〈장마〉는 2000년 이후 한동안 고등학교 국정교과서에 실리기도 하였다.

1970년대 후반 들어, 산업화 과정에서 드러나는 노동계급의 소외와 갈등의 문제를 형상화한 〈아홉 켤레의 구두로 남은 사내〉·〈직선과 곡선〉· 〈창백한 중년〉 등의 연작을 발표하였다. 1980년대에 접어들며 발표한 〈완장〉에서 권력의 생태에 대한 비판의식을 풍자와 해학의 기법으로 표현하는 한편, 장편 《에미》는 격동의 현대사를 살아온 여인의 수난사를 따뜻한 시선으로 형상화하였다.

그의 작품은 전반적으로 독특한 리얼리즘 기법으로 시대의 모순을 드러내며, 한국 현대사에 대한 예리한 통찰력과 함께 산업화와 소외의 문제에 대한 비판적 시각을 보여주었다는 평가를 받고 있다.

1995년부터 한서대학교 인문사회학부 문예창작학과 교수로 재직하였고, 1999년 민족문학작가회의 부이사장을 역임하였고, 2016년 7월 대한민국예술원 회원으로 선출되었다.

1977년 〈아홉 켤레의 구두로 남은 사내〉로 한국문학작가상을 수상했으며, 1983년 <완장>으로 현대문학상과 〈꿈꾸는 자의 나성〉으로 한국창작문학상을 수상하였다. 또한 1995년 <낫>으로 요산문학상, 2000년 〈산불〉로 21세기문학상을 수상했으며, 2004년 〈소라단 가는 길〉로 대산문학상, 2010년 현대불교문학상을 수상하였다.

Yun Heung-gil

Heungil Yun, born in 1942 in Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do, worked as a mechanic of jet engine, when he joined Korean air force army in October in 1961 after graduating Jeonju normal school in the same year. He started writing at Nesosa temple when he worked as a teacher in the Seokpo branch of Jinseo elementary school in Buan-gun. He has started his official career as a novelist when he won the literary award of Hankookilbo newspaper in 1986.

After having graduated from Wongwang university majoring in Korean literature in 1973, he started teaching in Sunshin Girls’ high School, then worked in editorial department in Ilchokak publishing company. In 1973 he attracted the attention of the Korean literary circle he depicted a suffering of a fratricidal war and touching reconciliation in , a story of conflict between maternal uncle in Korean Armed Force and paternal uncle in partizan. The novel had been in School textbook for a while since 2000.

He published a sequence of novels 〈The Man Who Was Left as Nine Pairs of Shoes〉〈Straight Line and Curve〉· 〈Pasty Middle Age〉in late 70s which encapsulates the conflicts and isolation of working class who were going through rapid industriasation. In his novels published in early 80s, he criticised the nature of power and authority by using writing technique of satire and burlesque whilst he embodied an ordeal of a woman with warm gaze who had gone through tumultuous Korean modern history.

His works, on the whole, are considered as successful examples of realisation of critical views on marginalization caused by rapid industrialisation and of acute diagnosis on Korean modern history by revealing the oxymoron of the era by using unique realism

He works at Social Humanity Department, Hanseo university as a professor of Creative Writing department since 1995. He worked as a deputy director of the board of National Writers’ Association of Korea and He was appointed a member of Korean Art Council in July 2016.

He won the Korean Literary Writer’s Prize in 1977 for 〉, Contemporary Literature (Hyundae Munhak) Award for his in 1983, and Korean Creative Writing Prize for . He won Yosan Literary Prize for in 1995, 21st Century Literary Award for , Daesan Literary Awards for , and won modern Buddhist’s literary award.
